Thru Hull Installation Tool
The Concept:
THT-530 makes the installation of standard GROCO thru-hull fittings possible by a single installer. Slide the thru-hull fitting, flanged end first, over the tool. (It will stop at the proper step.) Tie a length of monofilament to the eye and place it into the already-cut hole in the hull of the boat. Apply caulking to the flange of the fitting, and pull the fitting through the hole and against the hull from inside the boat. Thread the mono-filament through the locknut or seacock. With the fitting pulled firmly against the hull the locknut or the seacock may be screwed onto the fitting.
THT-530 fits GROCO Thru-hull Fitting Sizes from 1/2" through 3"
The top wrench section snapped off the first time I used it. It's a bad casting. I expect that many of these have the same issue... extremely disappointing for the price.
I hate when tools cost a lot of money, especially when there are "shade tree mechanic" ways of doing a task.. And the Groco Thru-Hull installation tool is just one of those tools.. Sure it's for a boat, and anything for a boat is going to be over priced.. But this thing is just a cast piece with almost no labor to manufacture...But when you are installing a thru-hull fitting on a boat, it is very nice to have a proper tool that fits the fitting solidly.. And this tool does the job very nicely..… It works with the smallest of thru-hulls to the very large ones.. About my only complaint about the tool is its price.. flk k
I install and remove thru hulls regularly. Works well. No issues.
It's an essential tool for installing thru hulls on a boat, this product met my needs perfectly, and about 15% less than West Marine.
The tool did not fit my fittings very well. It is a bit loose and barely engaged the cams on the inside of the fittings. The tool worked, and i got the fittings out, but I think it could be made to a better tolerance. Appears to be a cast aluminum tool, Also does not use a ratchet and you have to use a pin type wrench to engage the holes in the back side to turn it... This tool could be improved. My 2 cents...
