USCG Regulations simply state that a horn or whistle is recommended to signal your vessels intentions or position. Under Rule 33 of the Navigation Rules boats under 20m MUST have aboard a means of making “efficient” sound. A whistle, in itself, produces a sound, however it may not produce a loud enough sound to notify another vessel of your intentions or position. As such, we recommend that your vessel be equipped with a Marine Electric Horn.
