Jack Plates

If you’re looking to move across shallow Lake’s or Rivers, or across the Saltwater Flats, under power, then you should seriously look at purchasing & installing a Hydraulic or Manually operated Jack Plate for your Outboard Motor. Available at Captain’s Marine Supply these marine devices allow you to raise & lower your outboard “vertically”, thus allowing you to navigate in quite shallow water, versus using the Tilt & Trim option on your Outboard. Typically, there is no set rule for the amount of “Set Back” you’ll want when installing a jack plate. T – H Marine offers its “Atlas” line of Hydraulic Jack Plates with a 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, or 14 inch “Set Back”. Smaller boats sometimes favor bigger Set Back’s, because it allows the outboard to run in cleaner water & away from Trim Tabs, if installed. On larger boats the set back is typically 4 in., but can be greater, as a “general rule of thumb”. Remember as you increase the Set Back you are changing the center of gravity on the boat.
