Marine Heads & Waste Tanks
The Marine Toilet often referred to as the “Head” acquired its name from back in the day when Sailing Ships located their Toilet(s) all the way forward on the ship just behind the Figurehead! The term stuck & over the years, as most if not all Mariners now know, the Marine Toilet is referred to as the “Head” onboard a vessel!
We carry an excellent selection of Marine Heads manufactured by Raritan in both Electric / Manual Flush applications. They are also available in Household & Marine Style configurations. The Electric Flush Raritan Models are designed to be powered by a 12V Battery Bank System. If your ability to produce 12V electrical current aboard is limited, then you would most likely want to install a “Manual Flush” Raritan Head!
Waste Holding Tanks are classified as a Type III MSD by the EPA / USCG. They do not treat sewage onboard the vessel. They are designed to simply “store” raw sewage effluent, while preventing overboard discharge. The Marina where your vessel is docked, typically provides Pump Out Services for the removal of raw sewage from your Waste Holding Tank. Or you can elect to discharge the untreated sewage if you’re at least 3 miles offshore.
It is illegal to discharge untreated or treated sewage within a No – Discharge Zone (NDZ).
In order to discharge within 3 Miles of the shore raw sewage must be treated using a USCG Approved Type I or Type II MSD (Marine Sanitation Device), which are categorized as Flow – Through Devices. Type I MSDs are suitable for vessels up to 65 ft. in length. Furthermore, Treated & Untreated sewage discharges are prohibited in Freshwater Lakes & Reservoirs nationwide.
We carry a wide variety of nationally recognized Marine Type I, II, & III MSDs manufactured by Albin Pump, Jabsco & Raritan to meet all EPA / USCG Regulations, regarding the discharge of untreated & treated sewage.
