The compass formed a huge air bubble. Makes it very difficult to read. The compass is non-refillable. The Richie compass fluid I purchased from Amazon is a non-returnable item.

In my opinion the usable life span of 30 months was extremely short for what I thought to be a quality product. During the 30 months of use I got it worked great. Then the plastic body of the housing that enclosed the compass cracked in multiple places and allowed the liquid to leak out. I removed the compass from my boat to refill and reseal it only to find a label on the bottom stating that the housing was non refillable. Wow, what an upgrade over my older Ritchie. Fits in the same 3.75"-hole, but I swear the compass-card is TWICE the size. I can read this new compass without glasses, no-problem. Additionally, you can easily see the front and rear center index lines simultaneously, so you know HOW to view the compass without perspective-error. I bought the H-741-C plastic cover (not-included, but shown in my pictures) because I'm tired of replacing these Helmsman compasses every 4-5 years (though I think they br…

Used it one season and its leaking already!!!! 4 months I was able to use it. Opened the boat up for this season and its leaking. What a joke!

This compass works good.You'll have to drill a large hole.My only negative is that the green light is not very bright.I tried calling Ritchie numerous times (to see if there was a way to make it brighter) and finally got a hold of someone. They took a message for the tech to call me back, but they never called.
