I am writing this review in the second year of owning the BG 4500. I fish salt water in the PNW from rocky cliffs and jetties. This reel is smooth, and has incredible winching power to get those big Lingcod up the side of the rocks with ease. I was tired of catching then losing fish in the retrieve of pulling them up the cliffs. Not anymore, if the hookset is good, they are coming up! I have purchased these reels from other suppliers in the past. The BG reels are great, however this seller sent me a reel with no crank handle. I ordered two reels, one came complete, one did not. 50/50 shot so one star.

Heard and read many good things about the Daiwa BG series reels, so figured I'd try one. Used it about 3 or 4 times when the reel handle (part you hold in your fingers) bolt snapped when reeling in a fish. Went to get it fixed under warranty, but you need to ship it back (about $20) and then they charge you ($20) to ship the repaired reel back to you, so $40 total. Made my case that I shouldn't have to pay for a break due to a defective/poorly crafted part after 3 or 4 uses. Got the basic '…

Wow, first impression is what a great reel. Going to use it from shore in the oceans, yes oceans! I have never paid this much for a reel before, but I think this one was worth it. Came very highly recommended from a charter boat captain in Costa Rica! Can use it on shore and off shore too.
