Summer heat and sunshine on a boat's gas tank causes ethanol to separate from the gas. Can happen within a week or two depending on the amount of heat. The ethanol alcohol settles to the bottom of the gas line that enters your motor. The ethanol is heavier than gas. This is called phase separation. When a carb or fuel injector gets 100% ethanol alcohol it will not start. This will ruin your day and cost you big bucks to repair. Stabil prevent this from happening. A black gas hose lying in …the sun really heats up fast. Switch to a light gray gas hose and either use non ethanol gas or use Stabil. I have heard Shell and Exon 91 octane may not contain ethanol. Ask at the pump.

With today's fuel being ethanol based, I only use this Marine Formula for my storage needs. I started using this stuff with my motorcycle (which was carboreuted). With the normal Sta-Bil I had to keep rebuilding the carb and cleaning the fuel jets because they were getting clogged when the ethanol started to break down. This marine version of STA-BIL is made to treat ethanol fuels and has been a wonder if preventing carb/jet clogging. I now use it with every fill-up in my boat and have yet …to have any fuel related issues.In sum, if you need storage protection and use fuel that contains ethanol, this is the only solution.
