En el radio anterior de la misma marca la batería me ha durado por mas de 2 años. no hay ningún problema en el uso para mi trabajo e la bahía de cartagena
So far so good , got wet and still no issue
Nothing fancy but a good “grab and go” unit.
I've been a Harbor Pilot for 26 years. I've always used this brand. I always have a spare with me (just in case) in my backpack. I've only ever had to pull out my spare 2 times in the middle of very long intense jobs where the battery was getting low and the assist tugs I was working with were only hearing about every other word of my many commands. Battery life for me is about 6-8 hours of intense use. This includes frequent and repetitive speaking and listening over the course of 3-4 ship mov…ements of about 1 to 2 hours each. It is NOT waterproof to the extent it floats. But in all my years of carrying this thing around on my belt holster, it's never been dropped in the ocean. Including climbing up pilot ladders in rough weather. I now carry both radios inside a backpack with my other gear. But I frequently and routinely am standing in the rain using the radio on the bridge wing. It's never failed me under such conditions. If you need a "floating" radio (which I have, it's my spare) be advised they are much bigger (fatter) radios. This radio featured here is a comfortable, natural fit in your hand with its slim construction. Nothing wrong or bad about the floating model handhelds, but it is a bigger radio and you should know that before buying. ALL THOSE RADIOS ARE, not just Horizon radios. They have to have the buoyancy to float. I don't really care about that. I cannot give this radio a higher recommendation. I am buying another one (my third in 20+ years) only because the "PPT" button is wearing out! The PPT button is the one on the side you key to talk. I've replaced it before. The cost is not expensive but it makes more sense to just buy a whole new radio anyway. It's functional, it reliable, it simple, it charges up quickly, it's rugged (I've dropped it on a steel deck many times, still works) and I'm buying another. What more do you want? I pilot cruise ships, tankers, containerships, etc. I put my life and career on the line with this radio. That's my recommendation right there.
I had my doubts... I often buy the wrong thing first time around. Not this time! On the water I was the first to get storm alerts, was able to scan all the regular channels and stay informed, and was very happy with the all-day battery life. The only addition I've had to make was a coiled tether to secure it to my PFD.
Great VHF's with long lasting battery.
Replaced an older model of SH radio. This new model has the same features I like and appears to work well out on the water. I also like the added benefits of being water resistant and lightweight. I'm happy with my purchase.
